THE EVOLUTION OF TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS

The First Generation:

Paper & Fax

The first generation of veterinary clinic management, record keeping, and inventory ordering systems was a far cry from what we have today. Before digital systems, records were kept on paper and filed in cabinets, and business activities such as ordering were conducted by fax and phone. These inefficient practices were time-consuming and generated significant administrative overhead.

Limitations in these systems included:
• Overwhelming Administrative Tasks
• Time Consuming
• Not eCommerce Friendly

The Second Generation:

Practice Management System (PiMS)

Premise- and cloud-based PiMS were a significant improvement over the inefficient paper and fax systems of the previous era. However, these new eCommerce sites still had major drawbacks, such as the overwhelming amount of administrative work required to keep track of orders and inventory. This was highly time-consuming, making it difficult to scale a business.

Limitations in these systems included:
• Lack of comparison shopping
• Limited Tools
• No Regional Sales Comparisons
• Lack of Profit Margin Tools

The Third Generation:

Aggregators

Continued improvement to solutions for veterinarian health clinics opened the door for aggregators. While today’s aggregation solutions for veterinary clinics are essential tools, they are limited in understanding your purchases vs. sales and your clinic’s bottom line. Inventory tracking, regional sales transparency, and profit margin tools are all important factors in ensuring that your clinic runs smoothly and efficiently. Unfortunately, current aggregation solutions lack these tools, making it difficult to accurately gauge your clinic’s performance.

Limitations in these systems included:
• No Inventory Tracking
• No Regional Sales Comparisons
• No Profit Margin Tools
